Professional Position Available

 

TITLE:                                   Staff Accountant

CLASSIFICATION:             Full-Time

REPORTS TO:                      Senior Accountants, Engagement Managers, or Engagement Partners

 SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN OUR FIRM

 

Staff accountants are closely supervised by senior accountants and partners.  Initially, they are given routine accounting and tax assignments.  As they gain experience, they are given more difficult assignments and greater responsibilities.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Become familiar with the firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Understand the rules, regulations, and code of conduct of the AICPA.
  • Become familiar with pertinent IRC (Internal Revenue Code) sections and regulations.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of tax and accounting research techniques and the various research sources in the firm library.
  • Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership and other tax returns prepared by the firm.
  • Assume responsibility for the preparation of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced staff.
  • Perform the following compilation and review procedures under the supervision of more experienced staff.

·        Reconcile bank accounts.

·        Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to control accounts.

·        Analyze accruals.

·        Perform analytical procedures to financial data.

·        Prepare depreciation schedules.

·        Vouch journal entries to supporting documents.

·        Post adjustments to the working trial balance.

·        Prepare financial statements.

·        Possesses or obtain technical efficiency with various computer software programs.  These include word processing, spreadsheet, tax, accounting and general ledger programs.

OTHER FUNCTIONS 

  • Perform other duties assigned from time to time by the senior accountants, engagement managers, or engagement partner.  Develop appropriate verbal and written communication skills necessary to succeed in our profession.

 WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Involves work in the firm’s office. Once more experienced, work might be require on the client's premises.  Work on the client's premises may require the use of the staff member's personal car.
  • Additional hours are required from January through mid April.

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

  • Staff accountants normally have zero to three years experience in public accounting.

 REQUIRED EDUCATION 

  • Staff accountants must have at least a college undergraduate degree in accounting.
